Samsung S95D not switching to HDR when viewing 4k content on Disney+

Hi,

I've been asking about this problem in the S95D owners thread over on Avforums and since we're now at a point where people are suggesting a factory reset of the TV, before I do that, I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has experienced something similar.

I've had a 55" S95D since January this year, its given faultless service and shortly after purchasing the TV I subscribed to Disney+ premium.

Until a couple of nights ago, whenever I watched a 4K movie on Disney+, I'd select play, I'd get the spinning blue ring which would then jump to a brighter, higher contrast as HDR kicked in and the film would start etc.

Friday night I watched Thunderbolts, I selected play, I got the spinning blue ring and nothing changed, no jump to a brighter, higher contrast spinning ring, it stayed the same. The film played fine, just not in HDR.

I then went back and loaded up several movies I've previously watched in HDR on Disney+ and the same thing happens, there's no discernible jump in contrast.

The TV switches into HDR as expected when watching a 4k Blu-ray or 4k content on YouTube.

I've deleted and reinstalled the Disney+ app, no change, the app version is up-to-date altho weirdly there seems to be a discrepancy about version numbers. When you're in the app itself, if you go to settings, the version shown at the bottom of the screen is 25.16.0 but if you go to the main TV home screen, go to apps and then apps settings, for the Disney app, it's says current version 25.10.0 last updated 28Aug25.

The TV has never been unplugged from the mains since the day it arrived, it's kept in standby when not in use so I unplugged it for 10mins, plugged it back in, left it in standby for 5mins, tried again and the problem is the same.

The TV's software is up-to-date.

Internet is fine, speed normal etc, I'm not using a VPN.

If the TV didn't switch into HDR for ANY source or the Disney app wouldn't allow me to play ANY movies whatsoever, I could kinda understand that more but the fact the TV is switching into HDR for other sources and the Disney app is clearly working (just not in HDR) I find really odd!

Is a factory reset of the TV the only option now?

Any advice appreciated.

What’s the disadvantage of a factory reset? Just curious as to why you are only thinking about doing one if it might potentially according to AVF fix your problem.

I suspect this is a Disney issue and you will need to wait for them to fix it. I do find that Disney have these issues from time-to-time.

If I check Netflix on my phone it shows various shows in HDR. If I check Disney +, nothing is showing HDR.

(I would check the TV but my wife is watching something 😊).

A quick Google would suggest lots of users with this issue. So, I would simply wait for them to fix it.

I'd always kinda view that as an absolute last resort really, yes I know I can make a note, perhaps take pictures, of all my settings etc it just strikes me as a bit of a pain.

One thing I haven't done thus far is contact Disney+ so thought I should at least report it to them.

Apparently they are aware of the problem and are 'working on it', they couldn't give me a resolution eta but have refunded my subscription for this month as a gesture of goodwill and provided a case ref...so we will see.
