Howdy all,
Just thought I'd put this issue out to the What HiFi team and readers.
Last Christmas I bought the Samsung LEA686 40". Great TV, does everything I need it to do and does them well considering the price. However a couple of months ago I started to notice the screen would slightly flicker (almost like the screen image jumps) running any digital input at 1080p (ie. a PS3 using HDMI or Xbox on Component). I didn't really do much about it to be honest as I took it as over heating (usually it's hot in my flat, summer, lots of equipment near TV etc). And the flicker was pretty minimal.
Though recently over the last few weeks the flickering is becoming a lot more unstable, it's now flickering the whole picture (almost like overlaying another picture on top of another), screen shifting (like 10 pixels left/right) continually occuring every 1 or 2 seconds.
Only happenign on Digital inputs, but not Scart for some reason (that I run Sky+ through).
On my PS3 I've tried other resolutions, 1080i has the same effect however in 720p the flickering appears to go, and only the odd small screen shift flicker occurs. Strange?
Also, I'm running the connection through a 1.3b HDMI cable, i've tried a couple of other cables; an older cheap 1.3 cable and another fairly adequate PureAV 1.3a cable and the issues still have the same effect, just incase I had a dodgy cable. As well as trying all the other 4 HDMI inputs.
I've had a little scout around the web (mostly other forums) and have read that this fault seems to be quite common on the LEA656 model, on certain build batches. And most people have said get it refunded or replaced.
I use my PS3 for most of my media needs (DVD, BluRay, Games) so it's becoming quite annoying!
Luckily my 12 month manufacturers warrant is still in date so I'm probably going to try and get it either replaced or refunded.
Just though I'd let everyone know, incase they have had the same issue or if any guru's out there had any insight into this issue).
Thank you please,
Ben
