Hi I need some help.

I am wanting to purchase either the 40" or 46" samsung. I noticed in what hifi best buys this month that the 46" got best buy. The question is - is the 40" exactly the same technology but just a smaller screen? (and if so why is the 40" not one of the best buys). I am thinking 46" but I only sit 3.3m away form the screen. Is that enough distance?

Thanks

Samsung's model numbering is horrendously complex and confusing, as they produce different versions of the same-size screens for different retailers, and no, in our experience, they're not always the same.

We've tested the LE46F71B (5 stars) which was great, and the LE40M86/LE40M87 (4 stars), although the first sample of the LE40M87 we had in was significantly inferior to the 'M86.

As for the LE40F86 we haven't tested it, so can't comment. As a rule of thumb, we recommend a TV size of 28-32in for a viewing distance up to 3.5m, and 36in-42in for 3.5m to 4m, so I'd go for a 40in max in your case.

3.5m from a 50in old-model Fujitsu plasma here, and having spent yesterday evening watching Pirates 3 on DVD - looked and sounded great but it didn't 'arf go on - I'd say go for the 46. You won't regret it!
