Great stuff I been waiting to see the review on this and now need to do a side by side with the 7020. It looks that my love for the Panasonic plasma's are over and I will get the Samsung 8000/7020 as my replacement.

So can I/we take it as the best 46" screen for 2009 is the 8000 WHF?

With yet-more premium models still to come from Sony and Philips this season, who knows? Awards testing will sort that one out, but in the meantime the Samsung is a superb set at a great price - a proposition that'll be tough to beat.

I agree that the Samsung is a great TV but I'm surprised there is no mention of the digital noise introduced by the motion processing. Where there are two planes of motion I've noticed that this set introduced a watery digital effect around the moving objects/figures and at the edges of the picture.

Otherwise a very good TV, but its worth just having a proper look at this if you are considering one. The digital noise would be enough to put me off.

We mention that the 200Hz processing is best set to 'clear' mode, as others can look less natural - in that 'clear' setting, we had none of the issues you mention. And we spent a long time with this TV!

As ever, we'd suggest anyone trying out this set has a good play with the settings in the shop - being as so many retailers leave TVs on factory-default 'everything to max' mode

I have been waiting patiently for What Hifi to review this Samsung series. Are you going to review the 40-inch version? The 46-inch set looks a bit big and expensive for me!

Although not in the market to buy a new telly, I found the review very informative and well detailed. Big thumbs up for sharing information on what backlight setting you found best and the mention of what option you found the 200Hz to work optimally.

Great review guys!

Welcome to the Forums, Number 6!

I know we've got a 40-42in TV test coming up - i'll check with the team whether the 40in Samsung 8000 is due to be in that.

EDIT - Yep, it's been requested for that test, which should also include the Sony KDL-40Z5500 review, along with less-premium priced options

I liked the fact that the review compared this TV with the soon to be extinct Pioneer Kuros. I suggest that all new reviews for 5 star rated TVs include such a comparison in the review write up. Keep up the good work!

I too am really interested in the 40inch model as 46inch is too big for me. Any idea as to when we can see the results of this group test?

Thanks.

Seriously, though, the 40-42in TV Supertest will be in the October issue, on sale August 19th.

LED TV is a term used by Samsung to describe its line of LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs that use LED backlighting. LED-backlit LCD TVs do differ from conventional LCD TVs in some important areas: 1- They can produce a very bright image and deep blacks (doesn't work for Edge-LED 2- With Edge-LED lighting they can be extremely slim. 3- They can offer lower power consumption. 4- They can offer a wider colour gamut, especially when RGB-LED backlighting is used.

Thanks for the Samsung 46" 8000 series review, very useful in my current decision process for the replacement TV.

The contestants were the Sony 55 X4500 & the Samsung 55 8000, although this was recently complicated by amazon uk having the Sony for £2789, although that has changed back to the more normal £3699.

I do have a couple of questions that I would like answers for, if possible:

1. Is any one aware of any issues / differences between the 46" & 55" Samsung's, beside the damage to your wallet?

2. When are the 55" 8000's going to be readily available?

The 40" & 46" sets are available quite widely, although John Lewis has none to date.

Answers gratefully recieved.

I would also like to know when the 558000 is likely to drop. It seems everyone has the 55 but the UK. I understand the U.S are looking at the 9 Series!!

So how does the Samsung 7000 55 inch set compare in quality with the 8000 series?

No doubt this LED lit screen is ECO friendly than an LCD.....for that its a winner! ÿ40% less than CCFL lighting as the Sharp Aquos

I still think the screen need to be lit right across the screen and not just edge lit.If setting the LED back lite on a setting of 6 is only option to avoid the edge lit arrangement been seen then whats the point of have a dial up to 10??? ÿ

Sony need to get into this mix.....ASAP....but with affordable models and not show case specials.ÿ

LCD might not deliver the outright details in the blacks, this is now over emphasized....mid tones and highlights are just as important...and LCDs are just as good as Plasma here. I think LEDs/OLED/RGB Dynamic LED can challenge plasmaÿ

If the Sumsung was in the a Super test against the Sony and Philip models...would it have won???? ÿ
