Umming between these 2 and keen to get user feedback before I make a call for the beginning of June. I am interested in sd through virgin, x boxing, and blu ray in that order......my (too extensive) research is as follows

Samsung: good pictures noted, low power, smaller screen (better), looks great, but.....some backlight irregularites and gaming lag issues potentially.....poor sound but have an av

Panny: good hd pictures, sd so so, grear for gaming with no lag, viera link to the bd60, cheaper....but....at (above?) max size, bigger power consumption, and looks boring

Welcome any user feedback confirming or batting back on the respective merits or issues on their prized possession

Thanks

I am probably the wrong person to ask but a Samsung I saw a year or so ago was appalling and it's put me right off the brand.

Whereas I'm very pleased with my 2 year old Panny.

Got the 46" 7020 and am very happy with it. Came from an old Panny 37" PX60 and a Kuro LX5090.

I watch mostly bluray and game with PS3. Hi-def is stunning and lag is not an issue even on COD4 etc and that's coming from plasma - do use game mode but calibrated nicely.

It has all the pro's you mentioned, and one thing you missed is the media player capability and whereas I used to download films MKV, MP4 etc and either stream from PC to PS3 or use USB in the PS3, I now use the TV. I find it brilliant.

I'm also impressed with the SD (plain old Freeview via antenna) better than my plasmas.

Downsides are some issues with screen uniformity and clouding but mine is only noticeable in a pitch black viewing room - still getting Samsung to replace it though.

The G10 is a great set but I just fancied dipping my toe in the LCD waters, so I went with the 7020 especially given it's looks and media capabilities and not forgeting it's outstanding picture. Prior to this I'd not considered Samsung nor LCD.

Sound is poor however, perfectly fine for normal TV viewing, but you have that covered anyway.

Hi Titan

Does the gamemode work well enough then

Find it weird that you are so enthusiastic but are getting Samsung to replace it.......if I go down the Samsung route and wanted to test in shop what would you recommend doing to check screen uniformity (I may chase for game setting mode if I go down this route)

Why weird? It's a great set and I'm more than enthusiastic about the tv as a whole but mine does suffer from clouding, but that's rare, a fault and Samsung are swapping it out.

During daylight and even normal night time viewing it's not an issue, turn the lights right down and during dark scenes and I mean predominantly black it is clear to see, and it is then apparent in other less extreme scenes.

This would be difficult to test in a shop but the best way to view it is to change inputs to one with no feed, which results in a black screen. Do that in a dark room and any clouding will be apparent.

Game mode works really well and if you take the time to fiddle with the various settings as I did, I was able to get the picture as natural as my plasmas. Previously I'd much preferred the gaming on them but now I'm hard pressed to tell the difference.

Thanks for the update Titan..especially re games mode

Thought it was unusual that you were so enthusiastic although you were going to have to go through the hassle of changing it. In a way it makes the feedback even stronger!

I also have the Samsung but the 40inch version - it is so good words can not discribe!

Titan - may I ask what setting you have this on for GameMode?

Also I don't know if you'd be able to advise on this one, but i have the Smasung BD3600 and comes with a wireless dongle, which can be used for the and/or the blu-ray - however would you know if there is a way to get both to work at the same time without having with switch them over all the time?

Cheers

I'll post the game settings when I'm back in the country.

I take it you mean the dongle works for both the 7020 and the BD3600? You'll need to keep swapping or get another wireless dongle.

Hi James

Is yours ok re backlight issues and how is it with game lag.

These are the 2 things that are giving me some concern and making me consider the panasonic instead.

Heard game lag may impact my cod4 online gaming

Thanksfor any feedback on this

Well I use Game Mode and still end up top 3 in free for all in COD 4. Seems ok to me.
