Very interesting that Russ has added a new range of mains cables (with some form of 'dampening' system), but no longer sells ANY silver mains cables

Has he admitted silver makes no difference?

I don't know.

My wife threw her Russ Andrews catalogue straight into the recycling bin on Saturday.

I am sure you could phone or email them and get an answer.

Theres no way on this planet that Russ would admit they make no difference. If he did hed have some VERY irate past customers

chebby:Are people normally 'irate' when a manufacturer upgrades or changes a product they bought a while back?

If silver was supposed to be better than copper for RA mains cables ~ now copper with these 'suppressors' on are better. Then it would make sense that silver with those suppressors on would be better still surely?

But it seems silver is no longer in the range at all.

Call me sceptical..........

Then theres the price

£112 for a standard classic powerkord

£700 quid for a couple of suppressors added to the classic???

I think you'll find, Chebby, that you're letting your sense of reason get in the way of

After buying a GQ24 cable, I am also lucky enough to receive the Russ Andrews catalogue. Does anybody know what sort of equipment would best be equiped with his new speaker cable, that comes in at just under 16 grand (!!!!!) for two 8ft lengths?

If that were true then ALL silver ranges (interconnects speaker cables etc) would have been removed surely?

All im saying is im sceptical. If people believe blindly thats upto them

Why do you make it seem like there are only two positions? (Agreement with your scepticism or blind belief.)

I prefer a third position... 'Not giving a #~%@'.

Rik,

It wasn't that long ago that you was preaching the benefits of solid silver braided mains cables - What happened? Are you now saying you were wrong and potentially mislead gullible forum members who may of taken notice of your advice?

If youll remember those chats youll note I NEVER said silver was better than copper for those braided mains cables. I said I had solid silver for my amps in case they were somehow better (As yet unproven).

I DID say the more cores there are (When properly braided) the better the cancellation of RFI

I stand corrected (Not sure why I wrote that)

But if were talking being ripped off, the silver TM3 were still cheaper than the copper Russ Andrews

It probably cost's RUSS ANDREWS around £30 to make a cable he then sell's it for over £100, That's what i call a rippoff artist. I might go into this cable business myself it seem's like you can make a huge amount of money

Sounds like a standard business model. Manufacture something cheaply and then sell it for triple the price. That way you manage to cover all of your costs other than manufacturing and come out with a bit of a profit, although with the prices of some of the products I start to feel I should be wearing it as bracelets and other jewellery rather than hooking it up to my kit.

You'd be surprised at how much it might cost you to become as widely known/regarded as Russ Andrews.

That's what I call fairly standard in the hi-fi accessories business. After all, there are small matters of marketing, shipping, the cost of servicing returns and so on...

And in the normal retail model, there would also be rents, rates, staff costs...

The one item he sells which really gets my back up is his flagship Balanced Mains Unit

The unit would probably cost less than 200 quid to manufacture, and hes fitted one of his mains leads to it. So even with his inflated prices that equates to less than 500 quid

His 3kVa unit costs 3 grand!

I mean cmon. Theres making a profit, theres ripping people off, then theres the balanced mains unit. It literally stands on its own as a total rip off.

The only item ive ever head worse of was the manufacturer that replaced the shell and the base software of an OPPO bluray player and added 2.5k to the price
