Russ Andrew Attenuated interconnects - are these directional

I do not have mine anymore, but I am sure the tab said something like 'this end in amp'. But since the attenuation is to lower the output of the CDP as it enters the amp I would say that the -11db is the amp end. RA also go with directionality generally with their cables and so if there is any writing on the cable itself, you read the writing as the signal flows, from CDP to amp to speaker.

would prob be slightly unfair to compare as made a few changes to my system tonight for example added the timbre, rewired my two power amps so one now handles the HF and one the LF as was running them in mono formation previously and also added 3.5kg of atabites to each speaker stand but all kind of pulled together really well

would say sounding slightly more spacious but whether thats the interconnect or the power amps i couldn't say

Why not work backwards and add one at a time? 'Unfilling' the stands would be no fun tho......

def not unfilling the speakers stands with the pl100s you have to unbolt the speakers then the top plate and I have messed up one of the stand screw heads putting them back together - what do they make these out of plastacine - that will really bug me so will have to email ma for another one and hope i can get it out

from people i have spoken with this should now be the optimum set up - arcam always told me that it would sound better daisy chaining the power amps rather than using them in mono formation

I understand your enthusiasm matengawhat, but it is a shame you made so many upgrades at the one time as the feedback as you progressed from one to another would have made a great post. Could you change eveything back except the filled stands and start again and give us your thoughts? I totally understand if you are not wanting to, I am sure it would be a pain.

P.S - I see you have a load of MF kit. I too have upgradeitis and some spare cash, so my Musical Fidelity amp is now in Caithness having it's innards upgraded by Rock Grotto. I also have a Russ Andrews PSU (the one for the DACmagic) on order as it also works with some MF kit. But the upgraded amp will be tried first with the original PSU, before the RA one is introduced. I shall be reporting back with my findings, whether anyone on the forum is interested or not!

did you compare the upgrade for your mf kit to the ones that are now available on the mf website - seems to be an avenue they are going down

keep thinking about having my DAC done then keep thinking maybe should just upgrade the tubes myself and leave it at that

Yes and I went with Rock Grotto at £105.00 instead of MF at £169.00, for very similar work (replacement capacitors/diodes/valves). Rock Grotto also offer a five year warranty (excluding the valves, which are described as like lightbulbs) whereas MF offer a one year warranty. If you look here; http://www.rock-grotto.co.uk/x-can-v2-tube-rolling.htm you can see that valve replacement for the V2 is simple enough that even I would have a go. Rock Grotto only deal with the amps though Mike Grierson, who is Rock Grotto, is very helpful via e-mail if you want to ask him about valves.

i have a little dot mkiii and a fatman carbon and have changed the tubes in both a couple of times, just pull out so no biggy really - diff tubes in my opinion really make subtle changes to the sound some more than others, I hope you like the new ones

What tubes did you use and where did you get them from? Rock Grotto use NOS 6H23P and make a point of emphasising they are from a sealed bow and have not been used before. They are described as having a warm sound with fantastic bass response which suits me fine. Since so much else is being changed at the same time I will not be able to tell how much of a difference the new valves will make.
