I'm sure you peeps can help with this one.

Hopefully my new surround system will arrive today, it's made up of the following:

Monitor Audio

2x RS8

1x RSLCR

4x RSFX

1x RSW-12

Denon 4308 AV

As these speakers are brand new what is the best way to run these in before unleashing them to full effect? With my first system I tuned the amp to Radio 1 and left them running at a low volume for 2 days, is this ok?

Many thanks

Thanks for the quick reply, so what would you recommend and does the volume level affect the running in process?

Cheers

Yes it does, but to be frank, I'd just set the system up and enjoy it. It'll run in over the first few weeks of normal use, and you won't do any harm by just getting on with it.

Now that answer is just the sort to please an impatient bloke with a load of new kit to play with!

Thanks.

While I have your attention Andrew can you give me some advice on the best way to connect all the following up:

PDPLX508D (wall mounted approx 2.5m from AV rack)

Denon 4308

Denon 3910 DVD

Sky HD

Toshiba EP-30 HD-DVD (will be upgrading to HDXE - 1 when I find a cheap one on e-bay!)

Playstation 3

Hopefully a dedicated Blue-ray player when Denon or similar makes one good enough to warrant replacing the Playstation.

With the above in mind would I notice the benefits of an after market posh power lead?

Thanks again

HDMIs from the DVD, Sky HD, HD DVD and PS3 to the Denon receiver, plus an optical digital link from the Sky box to the receiver for audio, as the Sky HD HDMI connection only carries stereo.

HDMI from the Denon's output to the TV.

Done.

Pass. Probably plugging everything into a surge-protected power strip would be a wise precaution.

Have been running in my RS8 system for about a month now, using them on a wide variety of music and films. The sound keeps getting better and better (more open, detailed and rounded.)
During this time noticeable improvements have been heard (and seen on the TV) by fitting a Tacima block, kimber mains leads and getting a mains spur to soley feed the system. Yesterday I downloaded 12 cd's onto my Sony HXD970 DVD recorders hard drive and was amazed by the quality of the sound when I connected it up to the 875 with Audio interconnects and put it through the CD line on direct sound. Almost as good as the Meridian! The improvements made has reduced the gap to nearly nothing.

Thanks for the replies Guys.

Do you run kimber power leads to every piece of kit or just the Reciever? I assume the Tamica block is like a multiple extension lead? What is a mains spur?

How much will these set me back?

Many thanks

A 'mains spur' is a circuit from the fuse box dedicated to the system.

Bloody hell! Now that's serious about your sound. Not sure I'm keen to go that far.

Thanks anyway.

I run a Kimber mains cable to the AV amp, PS3, and the DVD player/recorder, Sub, all connected into a 4 way 13 amp plug which in turn is put into the 6 way block.

Makes a huge difference
