Well, do bear in mind that your 640C is one of the better modern players around before you get carried away.

Other than the Rotel, the Marantz CD63MKII KI-Signature is superb. I also very much like the Philips CD850 and the Marantz CD52MkII SE, but these are getting very old now.

Hi,

I found my old marantz cd-63se better than the nad c542, cambridge 640c v2, arcam cd73t, marantz cd7001. It just had that musical midband that the others couldnt match.

Some of these old cd players beat the newer one for musicality and naturalness. The newer budget players may be a little more refined but they couldnt match the old marantz for enjoyment of a good cd.

Have you compared the the older Rotel with the older marantz cd player. What was your conclusion soundwise?

Cheers

Steve.

I used to have this player and it sounded better than the £600 equivalent Arcam when hooked up to the Dac in the Box with the £50 QED Interconnect when I was looking to upgrade in the 90's.
