Id question why anyone is still using isp provided email in 2025. There's plenty of free options that don't lock you in.

And Plusnet are late to the party frankly, many ISPs no longer offer email.

Plusnet also doesn't want to be anything other than a isp these days.

They don't offer phone service on full fibre connections (not even DV/VOIP) only on legacy broadband

They closed their TV and mobile services etc....
Precisely. I've had three email addresses over the years, the only one that got infiltrated was my BT one. Both the others are free and have never been hacked.

Plusnet Broadband.
Having been with them for years only to find out they have recently outsourced their email addresses to another company that wiil change £15 a year to continue usingw the service.
That's me out.....

I've not used ISP provided email for near 25 years now, just use hotmail/outlook, not perfect but, does the job and no problems with changing ISP.

Have been with Plusnet for a few years now, their customer service has been good and, they keep making me offers to stay that are good enough to make moving pointless. As for them no longer providing landline services, makes no difference to us.

I would agree, Plusnet support has always been good and the service was cheap.
Just a case of letting everyone that still uses my Plusnet email know that I am no longer using it.... Ho hum!

I really can't complain about Plusnet. They were my first ISP, I've changed providers 2 or 3 times since (and currently just tether mobile data).
All the time still using the free Plusnet e-mail.
Only ever had one junk e-mail. Sevenoaks said they didn't, but I'm fairly certain they passed my (customised) e-mail address on to the spammer.

I'm realistic, I knew my Plusnet e-mail couldn't last.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that, in their privacy T&C, Google say that they can read your G-mail.
Maybe other providers are at it too 🤔
But do Google actually say they do?

...I heard a phone-in where the subject was unread e-mail.
Loads of people had thousands.
The winner was a Scottish woman that claimed to have 550,000 unread e-mails on her PC.....all that 'important' stuff she's missed 🤪

I don't usually have any - don't think any have ever been unread for more than 3 days (but I know I'm not normal).

They certainly "scan" your emails for spam filtering purposes, phishing scams, malware detection, harmful content etc, as do most providers.

Google and other ad funded services will keyword scan for ad targeting purposes too.

If you're worried about it don't use email provided by US tech giants and use someone like protonmail.

But bear in mind even using an email service with strong privacy and encryption etc, the moment you send email to someone who's using one of those other services your email is going to be scanned....

When you setup a Google account, you agree to Ts&Cs that mean, you give Google a license to do pretty much as they wish with any of your content, including email if you use Gmail.

I don't have a Gmail account and, never sign-in to any Google services.

The following from Google:

"your content
Things that you create, upload, submit, store, send, receive, or share using our services, such as:

  • Docs, Sheets, and Slides you create
  • blog posts you upload through Blogger
  • reviews you submit through Maps
  • videos you store in Drive
  • emails you send and receive through Gmail (Emphasis mine)
  • pictures you share with friends through Photos
  • travel itineraries that you share with Google"

The 'privacy' policy is that you get none - they certainly make that clear.
