ripping to flac with foobar

Hello there. I'm just starting a long but hopefully not too arduous process of converting my CDs to flac files. I've tried using both EAC and foobar for this in the past and have found that EAC takes yonks to convert the files - I'm sure this is because there is some software conflict or I've not set it up properly or something. foobar is much quicker. My question is whether ripping flac files using foobar is in any way 'worse' than using EAC. I know EAC sets great store by its verification of the copying process, but if foobar does the job just as well I'd be much happier to go with that, delete other ripping/playback programs, etc.

Any advice much appreciated, thanks.

dBPowerAmp CD ripper is what you need. I've used it over the years and ripped 100's of CD's into FLAC. Much quicker than EAC and very accurate too.

edit. I use Foobar 2000 as my Media Player but have never used it's ripping tools.

I'd hazard a guess that EAC is doing a secure rip and foobar isn't, which would account for the difference in time. Personally speaking I only ever use secure rip with dbPowerAmp if it reports issues with Accuraterip matches or with reading the disc, otherwise I've never heard any difference.

Thanks both. I find I have already installed dbPoweramp but for the life of me can't remember using it. The interface looks nice and clear and most importantly it returns French accents in the right place ('Introduction by André Francis' from Miles Davis Live in Europe, for example). I'd prefer to use a single program for ripping/playback, but this looks good to me. I see as well you can adjust the balance of speed and accuracy so might experiment with this. I have a lot of CDs, so speed is an issue.

Ta.
