Due to computer problems it looks like I`ll have to re-install Windows. What I want to know is if I backup the Itunes music folder to an external HD can I just re-import it into Itunes after the Windows re-install? I want to avoid having to rip all my cd`s again so any tips welcome.

This should work, as I managed to do it. I drag and drop music between a hard drive and my laptop all the time as the laptop's hard drive is not huge. I have also moved the itunes file in My Music between laptop and hard drive without any problems. So, as I say you should be able to move the itunes programme, the library and the music files onto the hard drive and then back again.

If you find after doing that the itunes has lost the music files go to edit, preferences, advanced and then find the files in the location box.

Or reinstall windows and itunes, put the music back in your my music file on the fresh pc, run itunes and go to file, then add folder. You won't have to rip again don't worry

His Lordship is busy at the moment so if I may.......I am assuming you have the latest version of itunes as I think that this is an update. After upgrading various tracks to itunes plus I tidied up my itunes files and ended up getting messages stating you have music on your ipod which is not in your library, do you want to import it back into your library? You could plug in your ipod and see if you get the same message and then say yes and it does import the track back onto itunes.

lol sorry guys I was watching top gear!

Theres a programme called senuti (itunes backwards y'see) which lets you copy from pod to computer. I think its mac only, but if you google search it PC equivalents come up. Very useful

If you connect your Ipod to your pc, you can find the files (songs) and move them to another folder on your pc. They will be hidden at the moment. Just go in to properties and change the attributes to "show" the files. They will be encrypted but if you drag them straight to your Itunes library - it should all fall into place.
