I'm looking for a bit of advice - my subwoofer has died and I'm going to be replacing it shortly. Im only looking to spend around £100 (Ive got boston acoustics 5.1 so cheap system in the first place), but I've seen that there are soundbars available for around that price that come with a sub included. Can anyone advise if its worth getting a £100 sub on its own, or am I better off getting a soundbar / sub combo, and using the soundbar as a center speaker replacement on my 5.1 system. Im assuming that I can use a soundbar as a center and that would be an improvement, and the sub will end up being fairly comparable anyway? But if it were that simple why would anyone buy a stand alone sub...

Thanks

Wharfedale SW150 is available for £169, can you increase your budget to that? Or look at used ones on ebay. There's one on offer for £140 or make a lower offer.

Definitely go for a sub instead of changing to soundbar system.
