At present looking to upgrade my turntable. I have seen a Rega P2 with a Grado Black cartridge for £160. This is second hand at a Rega dealer with 3 month warranty. Would like to know how it compares with a new Rega RP1 and if you think it would be a better buy.

Thanks

is this intended to be a stepping stone to better turntables or is this the one deck you are going to have to ensure you can play vinyl?

If the P2 was one of the last variants (with the RB251 arm). then i would opt for it. (Especially as it has the dealer warranty.)

Anything significantly older, then you will probably be better off with the RP1. (Get the white belt and the better grade of Rega mat but don't bother with buying the whole 'Performance Pack' as I think you will be better off with the - upgradeable - OM5E 'standard' cartridge than the non-upgradeable Rega Bias.)
