Hi,

My old Naim pre and power amplifier needs replacing. I am looking round and a friend is extolling the virtues of a Rega Brio R. I have heard it through his LS50s and it sounded pretty decent. I have Dynaudio Excite X12s which are said, by some, to be hard to drive. Would the Brio have enough welly for them?

NJB,

I find the Rega Brio R and Dynaudio Exctie X12 to be (for lack of a better word) a "weird" combination. Sure it has enough juice to drive the X12's to normal loud levels but it is not a combination I would ever think of pairing together. The Rega has PRAT, is light and quick, with musical outlines being a bit skeletal. The upper mid range can sound a bit sharp to my ears.

The Dynaudio is fuller sounding and smoother overall especially in the upper mid range and lower treble. It has good energy but perhaps is a little slower than the Rega.

Well, who knows maybe they both would match up?? You never know in this hobby until you actually try. Try before you buy is my advice.

I heard an Exposure 2010S2 with the Dynaudio X16's and the combo sounded fantastic. I have a hunch that Roksan and Marantz would also match up well with Dynaudio speakers.

If buying the Rega Brio R I would probably stick to British speakers. Rega RS3 perhaps?
