What an absolute stunner of a disc spinner.

i've just bought one, pre-owned and stuck it into my arcam/mission setup and wow!

this is an amazing piece of kit. i wish i'd bought one years ago.

i'm blown away.

all thoughts of upgrading the amp and speakers have gone right out the window. this is perfect.

hi, its the original opollo.. the one in the same casing as the saturn. (the guy who i bought the apollo from had one.. slightly jealous)

i must admit, i'm a convert.. i've had arcam cds, and dvd's for years, and this apollo is in a different league.

its really brought the whole system to life... i've not exactly got a 5 star setup, with mission m35i's and arcam a70/p85 but it sounds the mutts nutts with this addition.

you know you've hot the spot when the girlfriend says it sounds better!!

i've not had a dedicated cd player for a few years now, i had an original arcam alpha for about a year, then replaced that with the arcam dv88, which both of them sounded fabulous. then, because i'd bought a plasma screen, i upgraded (picture wise) to the arcam dv79 (for hdmi), which sounded very digital in comparison to the dv88, which i rate highly as a relatively cheap cd player, that i would reccommend to anyone.

so this is my return to dedicated cd playback, after around 5 years of using DVD's as source components.

this will possibly explain why i am so "over the moon" with the apollo!

I think what makes the Rega players standout is the transport and software used, yes it's a bit quirky but has been done like that for for sonic benefits and also they spend time on the Analogue section too.

i would have said yes to a brio amp yesterday, but today, after listening to the cd player through the arcam amps i am totally satisfied. i always knew this amp setup had more to offer, and i'm not disappointed.. it sounds fantastic.

Ummm... had the Apollo on home dem last year, and has very good clarity and HF detail. However, compared to my Arcam CD73 it didn't have midrange depth and bottom end solidity.

No idea how that was voted above the Cyrus CD6, and £200 extra over the Arcam I think WHFI staff must've been down the boozer that day. IMHO, the Exposure 2010S is a genuine step up over the Apollo. In some respects the Apollo is very good, while other areas it is distinctly average.

i've spent many a night talking with my mate (who got me into this in the first place) about all different brands of hifi, not really knowing or experiencing any of it for ourselves. he first had the sence and opportunity many years ago to buy kef speakers, harmon kardon amp and arcam alpha 8se cd player, which when i heard for the first time knocked me sideways. bearing in mind at the time i had a Technics mini system!

not much time after that, i bought a second hand cambridge audio a1 amp and a technics cd player and i was on my way!

300 quid later, i had the mission m35i's... and that was it, i was hooked...

don't get me wrong, i've loved the arcam sound the whole time i've had the stuff.. but the rega sounds like i've taken cotton wool out of my ears, and can now hear everything that was there!

the separation is much better, the musicality is spot on, i'm just enjoying it more.

considering the OP has purchased this 2nd hand and he is over the moon with it doesnt matter what other players sound like and I have heard a few players around the £5-600 mark and they are all very similar.

the distinctly average parts are coming across very well indeed, and to put it into some sort of context, i spent £180 on this cd player. i find that absolutely stunning value for money, could it be bettered for that? i very much doubt.

The original Apollo. Yes before the Rega Dac and Naim.

It was okay but I didn't think it was worth £325 (the price Audio-T were asking) over the Arcam.
