Hi all. My Panasonic 32 " TV has built in Freesat. I'm about to take the plunge and buy a DVD/HDD recorder. Does the recorder require a built in freesat receiver ? Have two feeds coming from the Sat Dish, one currently in TV the other dangling in fresh air ! Considering a Sony or Panasonic 160 GB model. Any thoughts ?

Thanks in advance.

Well IIRC the Panasonics have a scart output that will allow you to record from it's internal tuner(s) onto a HDD/DVD recorder.

There are disadvantages to doing this though,

A.The TV needs to be switched on and on the right channel to record onto the external recorder.Though i believe you can set-up recording timers on the TV to do this automaticallly(provided the TV is left in standby)

B. As the tv only has scart out,you wont be able to record HD, like you can with a Freesat pvr etc.

C. You'll only be able record what you're watching.

So if you want to be able to record/watch different Freesat programmes simultaneously you'll need a HDD/DVD recorder or PVR with Freesat tuners, though be aware i dont think theres any recorders on the market with both Freesat and Freeview tuners.
