Hi, I currently have these two Arcam units and have paired them with the Kef IQ7 se speakers. I'm looking to change the speakers and wanted to know if there is a better combination around? I'd like something a little brighter. Many thanks.

Try some PMC GB1i floorstanders. Alternatively, I've always found that Proac speakers have a very open top-end. Consider the Studio series.

My experience of hearing the FMJ A18 and A28 amps would suggest that your speakers are blameless in their lack of 'brightness'.

Okay I heard both amps with a pair of Focal JM 714V Chorus floorstanders - and I don't know much about them or your KEFs - but I am convinced the amps were the culprit regarding their dull sound.

You could try the new Rega RS3 floorstanders (I have heard them with a Nait XS) and they were extremely lively with great impact and gusto. I am not sure though whether that would get suppressed by your amp.

I have also heard the RS3's (and my own R3's) with my old Arcam Solo-Mini but (despite it's relatively low power on paper) the Solo-Mini was far more engaging to me than either of the FMJ A*8 amps I auditioned as possible upgrades.

Thanks for the replies.
Sounds like I need to audition speakers or a new amp!

I'd be interested to know if anyone thinks I'd get a better result (and possibly cheaper) by changing the amp rather than the speakers whilst still using the other units. Cheers
