I have a Yamaha R5 Receiver that needs replacing by something of equal quality ( Just for my CD & Radio listening ) I purchased this around the mid 1980s.If anyone can remember the R5 and can offer advice I shall be grateful.

.

Recievers have moved on leaps and bounds since the eighties, it might be better to suggest a budget on how much you want to spend on it, or you may wish to get this months issue of WHFS&V mag for a round up on A/V recievers.

I looked up the R5 on ebay, and the description says that it is for people who like high quality listening, at loud levels.

My first suggestion is look at the Marantz CR610, because there are several forum members who have stated that it's sound quality exceeds much more expensive systems. It has AM, FM and CD player, plus DAB and internet radio, and a claimed 110W into 6ohms (10% THD). It's styling is a bit different to the R5, but maybe that is not an issue for you.

Simon is right to point out that it would be helpful to know some more of your requirements, like budget, power output, does it need to be a full A/V receiver etc.

You'll probably also get more replies in the hi-fi section at the top of the forum. This section is really about showing off your system rather than asking questions about it and it doesn't seem to get that many visitors.
