Hi,

I am considering a new receiver (e.g. yamaha rxv3900 or rxv1065) and I plan to use it with active speakers (front R and L will be active). There will also be a sub that will be connected NOT to the sub pre out but will have to take signal from F and L speaker signals (because I have to connect the sub this way to also use it in stereo when playing music without the receiver).

The question is - will there be a way of telling the reciever not to filter out the low frequencies, not to send it to the sub out but send it to fron L and R (i.e. having the sub 'off')? And, if yes, is there a way to still use the automatic speaker setup on the receiver?

I do not find this in the manuals...

Hi Dennis,

You should be OK with the Yamaha.

Normally on the LFE set up you can send the LFE frequencies to main, main + sub or sub only, so setting the receiver to output the LFE to the mains should achieve what you want.

What is "pre-amp mode"? Is it any different from just using the pre-outs?

EDIT: i have checked the pre mode in the manual now - it basically switches all the power amps off. Not really useful for me as I only plan to use R and L fronts as active so still need teh other power amps on. What woudl be nice is a processor like av8003 + 3 mono power amps, triggered on only when required.
