Hi all!

I am in the process of planning my home theatre, and need som advice.
The system will be used 50/50 music/movies.

So, I have decided for B&W Speaker system:

Front: CM9
Center: Centre2
Back: CM5
SUB: ASW 10CM

But what Receiver should I buy to run this?

I started out looking at the Pioneer lx82. It has got good reviews all over the place,- but does it have enough power to run this setup ?

If not, what about NAD T785HD or DENON AVR-4810?

Will they be up for the job, or will I have to add a power-amp ?
Or do you have other suggestions when it comes to Receiver? Know any killer combos that will run better than others?

I appreciate all input.

That's one mighty set of speakers you have!! Pioneer LX82 may be a touch bright, although some people prefer that. Denon 4810 should definitely be on your shortlist, & so should a Yamaha Z7. Depends on how much you want to stretch your budget, how about an Arcam AVR500?

Maybe more experienced members can suggest you on the power amp.....

Yes, that speaker set up leaves many of us feeling a touch envious. The Denon would be a good call as, based on my audition today, Denon receivers suit B&W speakers very well tonally (at least that's what I thought). I know it sounds unhelpful, but you really need to find a dealer who is happy to let you audition several options in a dedicated room. Despite my requests for similar advice on this forum, all the posts in the world are no substitute for a thorough audition. That said, at least the forum can help you narrow your choices... Unless you have a huge room, any of the receivers you mention should be adequate.

I can definately recommend Yamaha Z7 for B&W speakers!

When I tested receiver for my XT speakers, I tested Pioneer LX81 (LX82 was not available at that time), Denon 4308, Sony DA5400ES and then the Yamaha.

I didn't really like the sound of the Pioneer, which I found too bright, like described by bigboss.

The other receivers all had their strengths, but the Yamaha triumphed as an excellent match in my opinion.

But whatever you do, it is very important you go listen yourself. Sound is a very personal thing, and what one person finds great may not be what you are looking for.

LX82 should definately, as product of the Year, be on your short list. Archam 500 sounds like another good contender. I would also give Denon 4310 a listen. I think Denon 4810 is too expensive looking at what it does compared to 4310.

Hi maanenigata

I too will suggest you also consider Yamaha's DSP-Z7 just as bigboss and TKratz have. The DSP-Z7 will be a good tonal match and has more than enough power for your speakers.

The DSP-Z7 is imo the finest VFM AV amplifier currently on the market (even at its full RRP of £1960). At the moment the DSP-Z7 is generally available for £1.4 - £1.5k making it (dare i say it) a bargain.

Thanks

Hi all.

Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated!

I will definitely take a look at the DSP-Z7, and also Denon. Unfortunatly, I donït think I have any Arcam dealers nearby, so getting a demo of it might be difficult.

Anyway, something tells me that Iïm going Yamaha.. :)

Best regards

Norway!

Hi mannenigata

Your welcome.

I have sold many Yamaha AV amps to clients who use B&W speakers. They work well and imo the DSP-Z7 is a superb AV amplifier. Besides which for me Yamaha inspires confidence.

All the best
