Does anyone use a raspberry pi as a DAC or music streamer .if so was it a self build? .was it a kit?.
How does it sound?.I'm interested in building one just looking for a little advice and information.

Yes, I've been using a 3b+ with Volumio for a while.

A Pi owner asked what he could do with it, my reply is post #8 in the thread below - which might help you a bit:
I'm still using version 2 of Volumio - because I don't think all the plugins have made it to (the current) version 3 yet.....and I can't be without them.

...then I bought another one for a self- contained headphone rig.
(SSD on the right, DAC behind the black-cased Pi).

Been using Raspberry Pi's as streamers since they launched a decade ago.

They deliver bit perfect audio...

The biggest problem though, is sourcing them at present, because of increased demand, supply constraints and Raspberry Pi prioritising commercial and education sectors as a result, means they're in short supply for hobbyists

So you have to be quick when official suppliers receive stock unless you're prepared to be scalped by unscrupulous sellers on Amazon, eBay etc.
