I think Disney tend to put some stuff into their "vaults" for quite a few years, and then re-release. This tends to push up the price of good second hand ones especially around xmas. Have seen these go for £40-50 each on ebay for hologrammed uk releases. These were last released in 2000 and then withdrawn with a tentative re-release in 2011. Suppose it depends on how you define rare.

This is true, I personally tned to view a rare DVD as one that had a limited numberd run (preferibly with a individual number of say 1000 etc) as oppesed to a DVD that was only avalible to buy for a limited "window" but sold by the masses how Disney tend to market their classics. I have all of the Disney early DVD's but would not personally count them as Limited. It's all down to your own POV i suppose.

Yeah I can agree with that, a 1000 issue run will make something rare. Perhaps I was linking price to rarity, which I suppose will have a bearing on prices. Then again a price on anything is only a price if someone is willing to pay that price.

The Criterion version of Pasolini's Sal• was once considered a very collectable DVD at one time. Due to licensing problems in the US, it was withdrawn and soon copies started to sell for silly amounts.

It has subsequently been issued as better and cheaper versions by both Criterion and BFI.

Edit: ohh - D.J.KRIME beat me too it!

I have the Japanese limited edition of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, this seems to be quite sought after. Usually R2J anime does not have much value second hand because people mostly want dubbed or subtitled R1 - I've seen a copy on eBay going for £80+.

I threw a Star Wars trilogy VHS boxset away the other day. (With sleeve.) No idea if it was rare or not. Don't care. No-one is ever going to buy a VHS anyway.

I tend to steer away from 'specials'. They don't fit in the DVD storage boxes.

This stuff is disposable.

Yes, I don't miss VHS either, I've had enough of having to return funky copies back. Having said that, I still have a lot of my collection (including two sets of the Star Wars trilogy!) mostly consisting of foreign language/art-house classics. For some reason I can't let them go, it isn't very practical as I haven't owned a video recorder for six years or so, it just seems a shame just to dump them because nobody wants them.

Nightmares has been in the pipe line for a while now on the RED dvd label but has not yet seen the light of day. Absurd was a follow up to Anthropophagus of sorts as in Anthropophagus the BEAST efectively kills him self at the end of the movie, but must admit the acting is rather bad but for me that is part of what makes these low budget Italian horror movies have more charm as such. G.B.H. was a gritty rather violent movie shot in the North east of England in the early eightys and not everyones cup of tea likened to movies like "Fight for your right" without the racial side of things.
