Quick question on DVD/HDD recorder and receiver using HDMI

I understand that HDMI can be both a video and audio connection. My question is then, assuming I have a DVDR with HDMI output - do I just have to connect that to the receiver (Onkyo 905) for video and audio and still get dolby digital surround sound for DVDs? Also, if I plug in an anolog video and audio source into the DVD recorder - will the audio still be able to get to the receiver via HDMI?

Most DVD/HDD recorders only output what is on the DVD or the HDD via the HDMI. there, at least on mine, is not a pass through function. and yes just connect it to the 905 by HDMI.
