i am quite close to getting the ca640p

i just want a bit of info about the ortofon2m red and the goldring2100mm cartridges what are differances in sound

i like the looks of the 2m red quite alot so the sound of the goldring has to be a fair bit better to swing it.

many thanks in advance

and my joe bonamassa vinyl was pukka from amazon came quick as well. just need to get my cartridge and p.stage sorted

2 different carts here smuggs. I would hazzard a guess that the goldring has better bass and probably not as bright as the ortofon up top. So it depends on how you like your music to come across. So you cant really ask for which one is better, its down to personal preference really.

i have a problem is that i found the ortofon 3e treble quite poor. And you are not the first to say the ortofon 2m red is a touch bright. So i like the reviews and comments on the goldring just dont think its as sexy looking as the 2m red. Ive got around 4-5 weeks to choose.

The 2m red is a excellent cartridge. It can seem a bit bright on the top end but I guess is because it's a analytical cartridge. The timing and excitement you get from the 2M red is what the cartridge is all about, and like what Mr Droid said- it's down to personal preference in the end. Never heard the goldring, so cant comment on that i'm afraid. Best of luck 🙂

Smuggs, have a butchers at the Grado Prestige Black or Green and maybe the Blue at a push. Around about your budget. This could make your head spin a bit lobbing this sausage on the barbecue

. Forget sexy looking, go for the sound. Good reviews if you trawl for em.

Major edit fuelled by your sig smuggs. Please dont tell me that you want the ortothing cos it matches your deck, please please pretty please.

sorry yes it is part of the reason, but i feel the deck can offer far more with a good phono stage and a decent cart i want a smooth nice listen i have scaned the ortofon reviews and seem to be forward with good timeing and control but can lack a smoothness with the treble. so the goldring 2100 is winning but i will look into grados thanks.
