Hi,

I was interested in buying a quad 909 amp because of its great sound quality anyone have any suggestions for speakers and a cd player to match. I was thinking of a set of Tannoy Revolution Signature DC6T or maybe a set of B&W's CM9's

For CD player the Quad CDP2 was the obvious choice for me - saved the expense of a preamp, assuming you don't use an analogue source as well.

The Quad CDP is a good suggestion and it's a superb bit of kit. It also has a set of DAC inputs to allow the use of other devices, excellent! As far as I've read, the preamp in the CDP isn't great and it can make the CDP sound a bit undynamic and flat. To get the sound that gives the Quad CDP such a lot of praise, use a separate pre.

In terms of speaker matching, the 909 is fairly powerful and doesn't have any nasty characteristics (like brightness or horrid bass) so matches with most things allowing you to choose the sound you prefer. I'd avoid speakers that are notably difficult in terms of impedance load as I think you'll get a better sound out of it if not driven hard.

If I were in your shoes I'd be looking at the Spendor A5, A6, Proac Response series, ATC SCM40, etc. I've never tried the Spendors on the 909 but I'd bet it's a match made in heaven.
