Hello guys.

Real quick one (I hope!). I have the opportunity to purchase the Quad L-ite speaker package for £545 tomorrow in Rosewood finish (formerly £1000 a few years back). Are they still up to the job?

This is my first AV speaker system and for similar money I am wondering if there and any other packages that are as good if not better I should be considering. Haven't left myself much time I know but has been mentioned that they probably won't be round for much longer! Thinking of pairing with a Denon 1909 amp and my PZ81. Don't want to spend such a large amount on outgoing speakers and due to their rarity I can't audition them.

. Any thoughts experts? Thanks.

I bought the Quad-Lites in silver for £495 about 4 months ago awesome speakers for that price especiallly the sub, with an Onkyo 606 sounds great. I think the rosewood ones where £429 but for around the £500 mark their fantastic, you can also easily upgrade fronts and rears and add an extra pair for 7.1.The Quads are small but quite heavy so finding stands and brackets are tricky i used stands for fronts and rears as unable to mount the rears. for stands i used Apollo A/1 7 and A/1 9. Speaker cable i choose Qed Silver XT for fronts and Qed Silver micro for rears a Qed psw 6mtr sub cable total cost £300.Alternative speaker packages i would considerlooking at are MK K1 system form Hifix for £649, Tannoy Arenas lite and Monitor Audio Radius series go for the older packages R90 for some good deals, try Hifix or Peter Tyson. For amps look at Onkyo 606, Denon1909, Sony 2400es or some reduced models such as the Denon 2808 now £400 down from £800 and the Yamaha 863se for under £500 down from £800.Hope this will help.

Great Speakers as Lobby said, and integrates well with the L2 range if you want to upgrade later, but I would demo them with others and go with the ones you think are best, go with the best amp you can, I upgraded from the Onkyo 606 to the onkyo 875 and that made a massive improvement the 875 is now £599 hope this helps

Bought the Rosewood ones for £545 this afternoon - I know I should have auditioned, but this is my first proper surround sound set up so I reckon I shall be rather pleased with it anyway!

Thanks for the input though - I shall be having a look at the speakers stands suggested.

With regards an amplifier, I think I can only spend around the £500 mark maximum.

Was gonna look for upscaling ability, but I reckon the PZ81 should do be as good as the amp if not better (unless anyone can tell me otherwise?!)

I hope you enjoy your Quads, Giggsy. ÿI'm very happy with mine - and I added a pair of 12L2s for the front so I now have a 7.1 set-up. I was a little anxious about the L-ite centre being the odd one out, but it integrates well and is super-clear on dialogue.

ÿIncidentally, if you DO decide to wall-mount the surrounds, the black brackets from Maplin do a good job, but tighten them well!ÿ

Hello Sorreltiger (cool name by the way!) Would like to wall mount the rears, but just decorated so would have to try and squeeze the wire into the corner! Might go for some tall stands instead (long as they don't topple over as the speakers sound quite heavy!)

If you could push to £600 the scaler in the Onkyo 875 is in a different league to the on the you Panasonic I have the PZ80 the only difference is IFC and problematically integrated Freesat problematic as the amp can't scale it as its integrated into you TV. But if can see if you can get a better discount as the 876 is now out

Hello Gary233932. The pz81 obviously scales the incoming signal to fill the screen (all 46" of it), but are you saying the scaler in the 875 would be better than that in the Denon 1909 for example? When I get a freesat pvr (one with dvd burning facilities if poss) I would feed that into the amp via hdmi and then have an hdmi from the amp to the screen (providing it provides a better pic than the screen can provide on its own!)

The 875 provides onboard HQV video processing via Silicon Optix' REON chip on of the best chip on the market, The 875 is way way better than the 1909 imo. The freesat pvr though the amp should be better if the pvr's turner is as good as the pz81's onboard turner. I got the pz80 because of this and I did not like IFC. PS also got the 50pz80 for £1080

I shall have to see what the money situation is like in the run up to xmas! Frustrating having the speakers on the way and knowing my amp isn't sorted yet! 875 sounds rather nice and a good match for the quads. Xmas in surround sound - bring it on!

Good price on the 50pz80 btw! Think it would be unfair to the quads to not give them the oomf they need to perform at their optimum. Shall have a look for deals on the 875. Thanks Gary233932.
