hi.l lokking book shelf speaker for my quad 99 pre and 99 power amp.can anyone recomend which speaker can match my system?thanks

Im going to sound like a broken record here but if you can find a older pair of Epos M12's that would do it, if there not to large. I have heard this combo at my dealers and they sounded good together.

It'd be handy to know what your budget is and also what music you generally listen to? Alos, what's your source (i.e. CD Player, iPod/Laptop via DAC etc...)

I have demo'd the QUAD 22L2's very recently and they're superb speakers; I feel these would gel VERY well with the QUAD pre/power combo.

If you need a speaker that can be used close to a wall, try ATC's SCM7 or SCM11. Otherwise, try KEF XQ10 or XQ20, PMC DB1i, ProAc D110 or Tablette Reference 8 (standard or Signature), or Spendor SP2/5r. All of these have their own specific characteristics, so a demo is a must.

I'd definitly consider the QUAD 22L2's then as well as Monitor Audio RX6's and possibly the B&W 683's!

You could do to get some demo's booked as you may find that other speakers out there are a better suit to your taste in music etc...

Some decent standmount speakers on decent stands would be worth demoing:

Monitor Audio RX2's or possibly the GS10's
Dynaudio DM 2/6's or the 2/7's

Not sure on how loud you want your music or what size room you've got but I did hear some Dali Mentor Menuets last week and they sounded sublime although they are a tiny speaker!

The only issue with the B&W's, Monitor Audios and Dynaudios is that they produce a lot of bass, and normally need a fair amount of room to work well, hence why I didn't recommend them in this case. It just depends how much room the OP has.....

Yeah; that's why I added the last bit in my post above re music tastes and room size...

If I had the cash I'd have bought those Dali's as well; grogeous speaker and I bet they're lush when fully run in!

I just brought a quad 909 and pre amp so i was considering the b&w's xm or the quad's

I think the B&W CM7's would work well with the QUAD pre/power combo

Deffo try the QUAD 22L2's as well and possibly the M/A RX6's or even the GS20's if you can stretch to that budget.

If you're after standmount speakers then I can whole heartedly recommend the M/A RX2's ort the GS10's. I think even the B&W CM5's would be worth an audition as would the Dynaudio DM 2/7's

I suppose it's horses for courses but I can see where you're coming from as it may be overall too 'warm and smooth'...

I think the CM5's & 7's would be well worth demoing just to rule them out if nothing else
