I have this speaker cable for all my speakers (KEF 3005SE), but I have just noticed that where I had to split the cable down the middle of the + & - cables that go into the speakers, some of the cable insulation has ripped away leaving bare wire.

Would this have an adverse effect on the cable / speaker performance ? What is the recommended way to split these cables without damaging them, in the past I have just pulled them apart, before connecting to the speakers.

The main risk is from the cable shorting against the case, or the other terminal. How long is the bare patch? If it's just a small nick, wrap some electrical insulation tape around it. If you're really worried, and you've got slack (I always leave some) re-terminate the cables.

I've had this happen, and I've taken to splitting my Silver Anniversary by pulling a very sharp blade up the centre slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the insulation.

Ok thanks mate, I re-terminate them as I have a fair bit of slack. Will use my stanley knife this time

But this split wont cause the performance to be any worse ?

I've found that pulling directly apart causes this problem as you've discovered.

I have also found that hold each half in each hand then pulling them apart across the 'Z'' axis* negates these issues

*Moving one had toward your body, the other away from your body. Almost like pulling the cables sideways away from each other.

I hope this makes sense.

I think it makes sense. You mean if you consider the cable as a figure of eight (8) - pull it apart by pulling the top half of the eight towards you and the bottom half away. Can see why this would work, as the force of the pull would then be concentrated on the neck of the eight.
