Q Acoustics 3070s
Good evening all
I'm looking for one of the above to buy, preferably black.

I know it's not the best sub in the world but I have a budget Marantz and QA 3020 setup in a fairly small area.
The size of the 3070s is just perfect for me and I'm sure it will work well with the 3020's.
Ebay is not an option at the minute.!

Many thanks..
Tony

Have you looked at 3060s? 3070s' seem to be making just over £200 second hand, you can get a new 3060s for £239. When you factor in free postage on the new one v £10 for ebay there isn't much in it.

I've been trying to work out which would be the best music rather than movies.
I can get a new 3060 for £230 or used @ £150

Unfortunately this forum doesn’t permit trading, but plenty of others do.

Why not ebay? There are some for sale there!
Thank you.
ebay has been a nightmare as I change mobile number.
They just can't seem to fix it or be bothered.
They have called me twice in 10 months.
I'm just going round in circles with trying to do it via mt login.!

Hi Tony sorry you're experiencing eBay logon difficulties but if you managed to get it sorted, consider also the second hand Velodyne SPL series, which you can pick up cheaply on eBay.

The Q Acoustics 3070s are a little shy bass, I know the Velodyne SPL or mini series you can get far better for bass extension. In terms of positioning these are flexible and you'll probably get a better sound from Velodyne, not lumpy and integrate well with the speakers.

The Q Acoustics are mighty fine if you decide to go with them.

I put together a second hand/budget system using eBay and ran 3030 on their dedicated stands with a 3070 sub and the system sounded fantastic, better than systems/speakers costing twice their retail value. I drove them using Vincent tube amp (SV200 and CD200; Google them their German designed and Chinese made as many units are these days). My main system is a full Cyrus one with Spendor A7 with two B&W ASW610s and honestly the 3030s and the 3070 give them are not far behind to my hearing. Happy hunting...

I got the 3070s in the end but I didn't think it brought much to the listening table so I upgraded the 3020's to the 5020's and I'm much happier now.
The sub and 3020's are up for sale.
I'm thinking of upgrading my Marantz PM6007 to a Arcam A15+
Anyone have the 5020's and A15+.?

All the best and glad you like your setup

Not heard the Arcam but reviews are glowing (including the ever important user reviews).

If I remember well, one piece of advice I was given by a few people when looking for speakers for a Marantz amp was to avoid Q Acoustics as it would be too warm-sounding a combo. For what I know, the Arcam might have more edge.

Thanks for the reply.
It doesn't sound bad but I think i can get more from another brand. I like marantz cd players but not 100% on their amps.
Will let you know how it goes..!

I am sure you can. I bought a PM7200 a couple of years ago, to replace a Denon PME800 I had never been enamoured of and I fell in love with it from the first moment. So musical and "emotional" - especially in class A

But after a while I started missing a bit of drive - I moved to a Rega Elex-R in April and wow... My foot hasn't stopped tapping since!

By the way, also moved from a CD6005 to a SA8005 - huge jump in quality.

Enjoy your journey!

Oh wow, that sounds really good.
I had a more powerful Yamaha amp before and it seemed to drive the mission speakers effortlessly. I'm hoping the extra power of A15+ and a newer spec will make a significant difference.!!

We will see..!!??

SA8005 is an absolute gem of SACD/CD player!

That was probably true for the 30xx range, but the newer 50xx seem to be more brightly lit, so that may no longer hold good.

@Toad66 just make sure you can hear the Arcam at home before deciding, because you might not prefer it.

I would recommend you live with what you have for a while to help understand what you like and don't like about it. Then audition some other equipment.

If the sub didn't add anything, it is possible the setup wasn't right , maybe the crossover? The new speakers are still small and would benefit from a sub.

The A15 is three times the price of your existing amp, you are in dangers upgrading to that and then deciding it reveals any shortcomings with your speakers, before you know it you are on your third pair in as many months.

Much appreciated.
I've got a deal on a part ex with my Marantz and literally getting my money back and a bit more but still a lot more money.
I will try an A15+ from my local dealer first.
I have a few guitars and the other QA's to sell first anyway.
The sub setup was all correct but as many reviews warned me, it wasn't great.

All the best..
