PS3 Version 2.50 Update

As a result of updating my Son's PS3 last weekend we have noticed less picture noise when upscaling DVD's ....Has anyone else noticed this or should I perhaps book myself in for another eye test?

I haven't watched a DVD since updating, but will do a check later...

Have to admit, I haven't done any further tests on that yet. And Lost on Blu-Ray has just turned up...

Worked for me. Did the update after an episode of West Wing and the next one I watched was far less grainy. Colours were better and the WBs logo at the start is more vivid. I noticed this without knowing the update was supposed to do this.

I'm stuck. Got to the end of 4 and can't start 5 coz it's missing.
Trying to buy it cheap on e bay at the mo but do I just go on to 6 or
wait for 5 ?

It's not like it's important although, Zoe's in
the hands of the Barhi, Bartlet has handed power to the Republican
Speaker and Andi said no to Toby.... as well as the assassination of
the Kumari sultanate is about to be leaked Danny.

This is the only series I have ever really been absorbed by and God only knows how I ever waited for the episode each week ??

i'd wait for 5. my box set turned up yesterday so all i gotta do know is find time to watch them. it's the busiest time of year for me with work and probably wont get a day off till....well xmas day now tbh.

The opposite for me. Been off for the best part of 6 months after an injury at work. All the time in the world but no season 5.

Just missed it for 7 quid on e bay. Next 1 is tomorrow so it'll be the weekend b4 I get it.

Not a happy camper.

Over the weekend....I watched The Untouchables 1987 DVD on the PS3, the Bond 2006 Casino Royale DVD and also I am Legend on Blu Ray

The BD looked about the same but I have to say I was mighty impressed at the two DVD's I saw too. I have a DENON DVD 1940 but I have noticed a little more noise and a slight graininess on the DENON compared with what I saw on the PS3

Whatever they included in that 2.50 update seems to have noticebaly addressed the issue of DVD picture noise...

I would like others to try some of their DVD's on their PS3 and give their comments

It may well be time to pass on the DENON to a family member and just use the PS3 which you know compared now to the Sony BDPS350 at around £175 isn't much between them in terms of both playing BD's and DVD's

Regarding the update, and people commenting about the picture being 'smoother' and having less noise (etc.), I wonder if the update actually switched on the noise reduction settings too.

I normally have all the noise reduction options switched off, but when I watched my first DVD after the update, and went into AV settings, they had been reset to '2'.

Now, I don't know if the PS3 defaults to these settings when it's switched off, or when you change discs, but I kinda presumed (and hoped) that it'd keep your settings permanently.

Any thoughts?

Yup, agreed. I normally switch it off in the PS3, and use my TV NR as necessary. I don't believe all NR is evil

I personally dont like it on the PS3, but each to their own and all that!
