i have the panasonic th50pz700 and have always used the ps3 for blurays and have mostly been impressed with the quality. some of this may be down to how the film was transferred to bluray. now im wondering is it worth upgrading to a standalone bluray player and putting it through my 605? my budget is £400. will i REALLY notice the difference as i am not a true expert on this matter. but if more of a system will REALLY get me a noticed difference them im up for it.

thanks for your input

I have a PS3 as well, and both the picture and sound quality off it is spot on. However I did notice a big difference to my whole system when I bought a Tacima 6 way block along with a muti plug (3 items can run off it) and fitted Russ Andrews mains cables to all my system.
Suggest you put some money in this area first before swapping your PS3.

This is just my own opinion, but I don't think any of the players around the £400 region are worth upgrading to over your PS3 (unless you can get a really good deal, I'm talking RRP players). I'm not saying they're not better, but I think if you already have the PS3, spending another £400 will not bring so much benefit that you'll think it's money well spent (at this time anyway). If you were buying from scratch, it would be a different story, but you already have an investment spent.
Personally, I've got my eye on Denon's DVD-2500BT - at £900 it's substantially over your budget but, even though I haven't seen it yet, I'm convinced this is the minimum player I would get to replace my PS3 as a standalone Blu-Ray player. I think it would be better sticking that £400 somewhere and saving until it's closer to £800 and then seeing if you can get a deal done somewhere. This is all of course assuming you have an amp which can decode all the HD audio formats... if not, you need to probably be looking at Pioneer's players at that price I reckon.

Don't anyone knock the PS3 as a Blu Ray Player...it's might fine product all round and then some with its futureproofing capabilities and it's Blu Ray Picture quality is superb for the likes of me at the moment

However If I were now going for a stand alone Blu Ray Player, savings permitted ...and no I didn't have any in an Icelandic related offshore bank thank god...in order see a massive difference in purely Blu Ray performance I would personally go straight for the jugular and get the new £900 DENON DVD-2500BT though I dare say give it until after Christmas and I reckon you will see it selling for around £799

Coupled with your Panasonic TH50PZ700 Looics you'll have more swing than Tarzan though fully appreciate your budget is £400
