PS3 or BDP350

I am not an expert, therefore this is in laymans terms. My nephew has the PS3, and I have the S350. From my point of view the picture is noticeably better on the S350, and almost as importantly it is also an excellent upgrader of normal DVDs. My wife loves the Lord of the Rings stuff, and it is just brilliant on the S350, as are a lot of my other DVDs (just watched Blade Trinity DVD earlier today, and to be honest the picture is that close to blu-ray standard that I won't even bother getting the film on blu-ray).

Sony say the same stuff go in there PS3 as there Blu-ray players, there is no contest in it, stand alone blu-ray is much better than ps3, I'v been round my mates house to watch a film and it was really juddery, I'v got a panasonic dmpbd35 and there is no judder at'll.

I stand by what I say, ps3 is a games machine a blu-ray player is just that.

xbox 360 is much better, lol though I'd get that one in.

In my opinion, if you already own the PS3, I wouldn't bother "upgrading" to the S350 - yes the picture and sound are slightly better, but there's not a lot in it. Either spend the money on more Blu-Rays or keep it and save for something like the Pioneer BDP-51FD or, better still the Denon DVD-2500BT.

If you don't own either and are looking purely for a Blu-Ray player, the S350 is the way to go. However, if you are interested in the other features offered by the PS3, it's a fine Blu-Ray player and a truly excellent DVD upscaler in its own right.

As for judder, this is unrelated to the player and is down to whether you are watching on a TV / display which can correctly display 24fps which is the native speed of a Blu-Ray film.

I used my PS3 as my sole DVD source for the last year and have just bought the BDP-350 simply because it does a better job in regard to picture and sound. I am also using the BDP 350 as my main stereo source having recently sold a dedicated Hi Fi to accommodate a new dining table!

There is a noticeable difference but as previously mentioned you do need a good screen, amp and speakers to make the expense worthwhile. This doesn't detract from the fact the PS3 is an extremely versatile piece of kit that is being constantly updated!
