Hi all i have been trying to use the media server for a while but it seems to be quite slow as often songs and movies seem to clip, is it a problem with a setting or is there a better software to do the job.

I Use an edimax wirelss USB adapter, and my PC is A 2.6GHZ Core duo With 2GB of Ram if it is of any relevenace.

I use the PS3 for media and music, and it works great, but I use powerlines.

I am not sure what you mean by clip, but I just installed and did nothing to it.

I only have a PC 4400+ amd so its not superfast, have you got all codecs up to date.

Its an instal and forget progam IMO

clip as in stutter?

Thats your wirless not being up to the job

Id also recommend homeplugs for streaming (Though you will be polluting your mains supply with RFI)

I have a wireless adapter just 3m away from the ps3 and it should be a 300Mbps onw and it has interrupted playback of both movies and songs (which is quite strange given the size of the files), or is the ps3 wireless a bit slow??

The PS3 can only use G wireless, so even if you have an N router it will only use G.

I would have thought wireless would be ok for music, but you will get stutter as I did before I bought powerlines with movies

I can now stream 1080p files over homeplugs with ease, and now MKV files as well.

To test I use a site to check broadband speed and ping rate. Whilst speed was pretty good on wireless, it did take a while to get there unlike ethernet, which also had a better ping rate

Id post a link, but i dare not in case I go against the grain...........

i used to be able to just stream stuff off my pc on windows XP, now i have a new computer and have windows 7, it keep asking for a password to enter the movies folder, when there isn't a password on it!

woudl this media server prog you speak of alleviate the problem?

my network is all cabled, so speed won't be an issue!
