What settings are you using on the PS3 for audio? Please confirm that it is actually set to HDMI for audio. There are guides on youtube for setting up the PS3 (both slim and fat) audio so you can hear HD audio. The older PS3 has to decode HD audio internally and output as LPCM, the newer slimline model can bitstream HD audio for external decoding by a receiver.

Once you've confirmed the settings on the PS3, I'm sure someone will be able to offer further advice on how to proceed.

Please check that you have it set as below:

On PS3:

Select Sound Settings

Select HDMI

Select Auto

Tick all the DD, DTS and PCM up to 7.1

Save your settings

Select BD/DVD settings (think it's within video settings if I remember rightly)

Select audio output format as PCM

Save your settings

Did it work before or is this the first time you've connected the PS3? It should work 'off the bat' with the TV simply by pressing and holding the power button down for 10secs to reset the PS3. If that doesn't work, there could be a problem. Do you have another cable to try and also regarding the amp, do you have an optical cable to try just to make sure that you can get audio from the PS3 (set to optical and bitstream obviously)
?

Garth Man:sound is working on the amp via optical but not hdmi!!!!

If you're getting sound via optical you have the wrong settings as the PS3 doesn't output to both at once. As stated above, go to Sound Settings, Audio Output Settings and then choose HDMI and let it choose the sound automatically from there.

Thinking about it, if sound was working via optical, then the Denon must also be set to accept audio via one of the optical inputs for the PS3 input, rather than HDMI. You'll also need to go into the Denon setup and ensure that, for the PS3 input, it's expecting both sound and audio to be coming from the same HDMI socket.

Hmm, I see you have a Sony BDP-S550 Blu-Ray player as well - is this connected into the Denon and working okay? If so, try swapping them round i.e. plug PS3 into the S550 input and S550 into the PS3 input on the amp and see what happens with each like this.

All sorted Professor dude, I had turned off a setting to enable sound through the HDMI on the denon........

Good stuff! Having been present when my friend setup his Denon 1910, I'm not at all surprised this was the issue - it definitely has one of the most unintelligible setup systems I've seen!
