I have recently purchased the Denon 1940 (to replace my ageing Sony) to accompany my Onkyo 875. It was intended as a stop gap until I take the plunge towards a HD player. I’m still researching/saving up for a flat panel TV. Therefore still using my Sony Trinitron 36” CRT.

The problem I’m experiencing is as follows, when the DVD is connected to the TV (scart, video or s video) I’m seeing what looks like noise on screen. When going via s video I clearly see a vertical line running across the screen (right to left). When I change to scart the vertical line is blurred and less defined.

I assumed it was a fault with the player and exchanged it for another one, but its still happening. Could the problem be down to compatibility with my CRT and the DVD player?

Any help or advice will be greatly received as its driving me nuts.

I have the same player and have it connected to my tv via hdmi. The factory settings are set for hdmi connection. Have you changed these? That might be the problem.

The TV (Sony KV-36FS70) does not have a hdmi connection. So using the button on the front panel of the 1940 have switched hdmi off. And from the customise menu have set video out to scart.

might be worth asking Denon via their website - they will respond to you.
