Hello there folks. I am a swedish music lover who love some of Regas products, but not all.

I have a Rega Brio-R Amplifier and are very pelased with the quality and musicality of the sound it delivers. Since happy with it I went on thinking what the last CD-player i probably buy in my life should be a good one, so I went on and bought the Rega Apollo-R and are very pleased with the sound

BUT, there is always a BUT

There is in fact something with the behaviour of the Remote Control i find more and more annoying. the more I use the player.

* After the CD has initiated one have to push the play button on my remote control TWO times before the disc actually starts to play, not one as with every else CD-player I have ever owned.. One more thing. The operating radie of the remote control also seems to be very narrow.

Is something with my players remote control system or with the remote control itself faulty? or, is this a normal bahviour?

P.s: I would have preferred to ask Rega this question directly but since the damn company dont even have an e-mail adress customers can write to and since I also have sent the same question to the dealer where i Bought it and not has gotten any answer yet (The mail to them sent a week ago, or so) I deliver the question to the cyberspace in hope for answer from somebody who knows. I would be glad with an answer from somebody at Rega.

Hi and welcome,

I'm afraid to tell you, I think it's just the way Rega CDP remotes operate.

I used to have a Saturn... a great player btw, but the thing used to take about 10 seconds to initiate the CD and the remote used to irritate the hell out of me... I just couldn't put up with it, so cut my losses and traded it in for a Naim CD5XS and the rest is history.

Hi, Swedish Music Lover. I also use a Rega Apollo-R & my remote exhibits the same "idiosyncrasies" that you describe. In short, I don't think that you have a faulty unit.

I hope that helps.

If that's a normal behaviour I Think it's a pity, a sad fact that Someone sell a CD-player in this price range with a remote control behaving worse than any really cheap mass market players remote. I find it so annoying that I Probably sooner or later swallom my pride, the loss of money and sell it cheap and buy another CD-plaeyr, not from Rega but NOT without fully and completely examine the behaviour of that particular players remot before buying.

Anyone have a good suggestion? On a good CD-player WITH a good functioning Remote Control Operation? Up to the price point of a Rega Apollo-R?

The way the rega software reads the disc means that initialisation is a little slower than some, it also means that you sometimes press play twice. On mine if you wait a couple of seconds longer, you just press play once. I really dont care if it takes 20_30seconds to be ready to play, it makes the next 40 minutes very enjoyable.

I find Rega's R products to be very special in the way they can play music. Does having to press play twice really bother you so much that you're willing to possibly downgrade your sound?

I can confirm the same behaviour with my Apollo R remote. It does seem to only affect operation via the remote - if I press the play button on the chassis it always plays first time. Good to know my player is "normal" though - I was tossing up referring the problem back to the dealer before I read this thread, even though the problem is minor.

As others have mentioned, a small price to pay for the excellent music that follows for the next 40 minutes to an hour. Actually, since I am a headphone listener I only really need to use the remote for blanking out the display. It would have been nice for Rega to have an extra button on the unit itself to turn off the display. Then I could just keep the remote packed up in the cardboard box!

I understand the OPs frustration - indeed its a fantastic sounding CDP, but Regas software comes into play here and yes it a bit quirky!

I have a Panasonic BD player, it shows the same traits like all BD players - takes ages to initiate a Blu Ray but I for one would never go back to DVD as the quality of Blu Rays is breathtaking and for the sake of 1-2 mins loading time i then have a few hours of superb PQ and Audio.
