Probem with firewall

If anyone can help, would indeed be grateful: I am using J River media centre, and a remote app on my android phone. I have a problem with my firewall on my PC is preventing MC talking to the router and my phone. I get an error "please set your firewall or router to allow incoming traffic on port 51299"

I am using F Secure security software, and I have searched through all the config menus, and cannot find any obvious way of configuring this. It is set to default allow all inbound and outbound traffic from Media Centre, but nowhere can I see how to open individual or specific ports....I ave also googled this and got some bizarre, but unrelated links. I know the answer is in contacting F Secure directly, and am waiting for them to reply, but thought it's worth asking here just in case.....

Steve - I don't know that particular software very well, but you need to create a rule on your firewall to allow incoming traffic on that port. I am not sure if that port is UDP or TCP (try both to get it working or choose IP to encompass both if you are allowed to).

This link - http://www.f-secure.com/kb/7104 - will help you to do that.

OK I saw that in the config menus before, but how do I associate an IP address with a specific port? I can see no port setting options in any of the menus...

You create the rule to allow connections and then after clicking Next you are given the option to apply the rule to one or more IP Addresses - you just create the rule for the specific IP address of your Media Centre. Generally speaking the most specific rule in a firewall takes precedence.

Aha, if the media centre is given it's IP address then this could change when it reboots. To cover this you will need to put in a range of IP addresses which covers what your router will give out. Typically if your router is 192.168.0.1 then you should put in the range 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.254.
