October 2016 Final words :

I was a bit crazy about gear till I adopted these. They are the first speakers in my room that dissapears and let me in a huge and deep soundstage. These speakers calmed my bad habit of analysing sounds rather then enjoying music. I dont post much anymore on the site because Im much more relaxed and thing have settled in for me. I rather buy some vinyls now or change my phono preamp tubes. They do require high quality source like all revealing speakers. I came back to that post because I didnt like the hyped tone I had when I first wrote it. I deleted it and now leave you a fair comment coming from almost 2 years of listening to the 148. Sounstage and tones are great. They dont like corners so beware of placement if you try them. In comparison to the d18 or spendor a6 i prefer the 148 fuller and more layered sound while the imaging is not as precise. Your preference!

I would not find any review so I decided to leave some comments for other people.

I have listened a lot to them during the last few days and found them to be marvelous.

This is a speaker that really rock well. There is bass and surrounding sound in spade. The sensitivity is very high and music gets alive at very low volume. The treble is smooth and have a slight rise at the very high frequency that add an airy touch over the lush bass. Bass is very even and does not depend on room as much as Im used to. Overall its rather warm and full sounding and I can really see Harbeth fans loving it.

These speaker, I think, could easily become a reference for versatility. Anyone loving full and warm sound should like them very much.

Thanks for the write up... would I be right in thinking they are floor standers?

What's the rest of your kit?

Hi Mac,

They are indeed tall floorstanders they are still thin and dont overload a living room.

The rest of my system is Nait 5si, Cambridge StreeamMagic 6v2, NAC A5, Music Hall 2.2 with Graham Slee 2se and ortofon 2m blue. I use basic transparent cables interconnects.

Other things you may (or not) want to know:

-I dont use surge protector but industrial high current strip with no protection or filters.

-Room is suspended wood floor 20m2.

-Speakers are on alternate thin layers layers : 3 liege and 2 granite needed for my boomy last speakers but not anymore. Awesome room friendlyness here. But make sure you have say 15m2 at least because its a big sounding speaker.

I dont think the 148 needs any particular attention because they are very very easy to drive and are not bright or boomy at all and can be placed anywhere execpt in a corner like any speaker.

Now if you ask me do I recommand these proacs, the answer is a huge YES. Very great value for your money.
