Right, I know I'm being stupid here but I'm a bit confused. The Debut iii has a built in phono stage (right?) and the 720AE has a phono input. I stupidly popped the cables in the phono sockets and hooked up the earthing cable which caused it to sound terrible. I realised that I the debut has a phono stage and therefore can just be hooked up to the aux/tape/whatever input which works fine.

Is this right? I assume so but I'm confused. Do I still need to attach the earthing cable? Is there a way to use the phono setting and not have to use aux?

Sorry about all the questions! Just don't want to blow anything up.

Thanks!

Use any input but the phono stage and use the earth.

As above ^^ but "use the earth" can be a generalisation and can actually be wrong. Default - use the earth, but if it hums and removing the earth makes it not hum, that's how it needs to be.
