Hey guys, I need some advice regarding the above vinyl spinners as I am not able to demo them. The prices for these two in South Africa are very similar so my choice has got to come down to performance differences, if any. Both will be supplied with an Ortfon 2M Red. I'm not sure if I should rather save up for a Rega P3/Elys instead, bearing in mind that it is around twice the price at ZAR13000 (the equivalent of GBP1100 – yeah, I know). Any thoughts and opinions will be welcome. Thanks Siva

Chuffin' nora! I'll buy one and deliver it to you for less than that!

Just send me your bank account details so that I can take the payment from you...

Not the response I was hoping for, but thanks anyways.

Maybe somebody has experience with a Pro-Ject 1 Xpression III instead compared to the above?

Not surprised at the response as that's massively expensive. I'm not an expert but have you tried sourcing the decks from the UK.

The thought had crossed my mind, but having taken costs into account for customs and postage & packaging, it works out to just a bit less, minus the dealer support should anything go wrong.

No to mention the chance of damage during the trek.

Having owned a Debut III for a while, I wouldn't bother. Can't you get something much better 2nd hand?

Hi Joel

I have found these for sale but I have no experience with the manufacturers, so again, let me know if you have any opinion on them.

1. Sota Comet with S300 tonearm
2. Origin Live Aurora Mk1
3. Origin Live Resolution
4. Linn Basik

Sorry I can't be of any help as I have no experience of any of them.

Hi Sivanessen

I also live in South Africa and am a fellow sufferer as far as high prices go. We are just being ripped off, there's no other way of looking at it. I got the t/table bug about 6 months ago and decided to go the secondhand route as the new prices were absolutely mind boggling. I managed to source an AR t/table which had been heavily modified and rebuilt at an extremely good price, had a Rega RB251 arm fitted, upgraded with an Origin Live counterweight and stub and an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge to round things off. I initially used a Parasound p/stage, but found the sound too laid back and lacking in dynamics and life. I then sourced a locally made phono stage (yes they do exist) and this dramatically improved the sound, in fact the single biggest improvement. I am completely chuffed with this t/table and have virtually given up listening to CDs, it's that good.
