Is it acceptable to run a preamp directly to speakers?

the amp in question is a quad 34

please help a clueless fool!

ok, thanks

I am confused then, as the setup I am looking at simply has the amp, radio, cd player and cassette deck?

Maybe. If it is a receiver. If it is just a tuner then this won't be the amp. Do you have any pictures or more details - model numbers etc??

Are there speakers connected?? What are they connected to if so??

Hey Oli

Just done some looking around for you and the Quad 34 is a preamp. This is designed to connect to a power amp. The power amp deals with the amplification and the pre amp deals with volume control, Source inputs and output to the power. This set up is different to an integrated amp, which does all these things in one box.

Hope thats useful!

Very helpful, thanks!

the tuner isn't amplified, its a pioneer f-90

I have been informed that there is a quad power amp sitting behind the whole setup.

Thanks for your help!
