Portable digital player with digital out.

This may be a daft question but does anyone know of a portable hires player that has digital out via a micro USB port like my mobile phone has?

Just occurred to me that may get better SQ by bypassing its DAC and using my USB dac / headphone amp with it just like I do with my phone occasionally.

I heard the Fiio X5 but this is much better and it is cheaper than the X5. It is superb as I own it.

I would wait for this to come out if I were you.

Thanks, I will look into those. The X3 does have a 3.5mm digital out socket, do I need a special cable to connect to digital in socket on the USB Dac / headphone amp?

You can buy a connector to plug on the end. Costs a couple of quid.

To be perfectly honest if the manufacturer chooses to fit such a non standard fitting I would expect then to include an adapter. It's still scratched, if I wanted 2.5mm balanced headphone jack I would have bought an Astell & Kern. :)

Good point. I just do not get why manufactuers are using the 2.5mm socket as 99% of headphones use 3.55mm as standard.

I would check out the Hidizs as I own it and it is superb. you can put 2tb micro cards in it so can put wav or flac files on to it therefore not worrying about losing audio quality. IMO it is better than the Fiio x5 and X3.
