What will you be watching on the TV? HD, SD, BluRay, PS3......

What is your viewing distance.

Do you have your own audio system?

Sports, Films, got to be plasma, better for motion, better for blacks and real natural colours.

With your budget, the Panasonic 42PZ85 at around £950 (better sound than the PZ80)

And you should consider an HD Ready set, say the Panny 42PX80 or LG 42PG6000.(around £600-650). You need to look and see if you can actually see the benefits of the full HD panel(the PZ80) against these HD Ready TVs at your own viewing distance. If you chose these you can add a sound system too, and still save money.

If you want to consider LCD look at the Sony 40W4000 (around £1k)

And above your price range is the Pioneer 4280XD, around £1200, probably the best of the lot. Being discontinued as Pioneer are concentrating on 50" and above plasma.

If you Keep an eye on this, and get JL to do you a price match, then I would get one of them. It is the new panny pz81 with freesat, and its the same price as the pz85, plus it has a cardreader slot as well as full HD freeview and freesat built in.
I ordered one last week, and cant wait for it to arrive! If JL cant help, try a panasonic shop and get them to price match for you. That link I gave you offer very competitive prices and their online price is the same as instore

both sets are £1299 retail at the panasonic shop, and both include a 5 year guarantee.
he should keep an eye on that site and see what whappens re. the price. JL should be able to price match quite easily
