I've narrowed my choice of blu-ray players down to the Panasonic BMP-BD85 and the Pioneer BDP-330. Which is the better player ???

Either one of these leaves me with £1700 to spend on a tv, which tv would be the perfect partner for the better player ? Ideally i want 40" or larger but it's not about size it's the picture quality for me, i'm not bothered about the sound or 3D !!! Please help, i'm at my wits end reading about them and not understanding which one's the best choice.

I would and have just gone for the panasonic 50V20 plasma tv and don't regret it one bit, i looked around a fair bit and am very happy with it.

Blu ray player wise that is a tricky one i still like the old pioneers ie bdp-lx71 or 08 one, i saw a brand new one the other day for an incredible price too.

Sonys are good too.

Thank you, i've found some good info on the v20 and i'm going to have a look at it tommorow. I've read that the panasonic 85 is better than the sonys, i thought it might partner the tv well, but the pioneer is £70 more which i could go to. But would i get more out of it ??

Have you got an amp with speakers?

Also i would not disregard the sony 370 blu ray player.

If you buy the tv they might knock alot of money of the panasonic blu ray player.

Yeah i have the Denon 1910 amp and Kef 3005 speakers, i always use them hence audio isn't an issue with the tv.

I did think they would knock the money off for the same brand, but i'm not someone who has to have brand matching kit.

I've found the v20 for 1500, which leaves 500 for the blu-ray player, would there be a marked improvement if i bought a more expensive player, or would that just be overkill for the tv ???

No this tv can take the very best blu ray players going and you would notice a difference on a tv of this quality and size.

Some people are saying that a Marantz blu ray player for aound £650ish (i think) is one of the best blu ray players about.

I know some people say that would be a brilliant match.

£1500 for the 50V20 sounds a little on the expensive side, you do know panaonic are throwing in free 5 year warrantys which can be used to your advantage and some people are selling this tv for £1379 with a free 5 year warranty on the internet of which they have me to thank because i knock one shop down to that price which the sparked a knock on affect i noticed

That sort of price would fit perfectly for the marantz blu ray player or something of equal value or quality.

Thank you, i've been trying to find one in stock to view but it's damn near impossible.

So i phoned one up and they said they would sell me the 50VT20 for £2000 with 5 years warranty.

I'm going to have a look and see what it's like now, if ilke it, the player will have to wait for a few weeks, but i have the sony 550s for the time being.

I demoed that one alot more than the 50V20 because of lack of places to demo.

It was really good, the 3D demo was stunning...... I couldn't help myself, it's my lounge !

Thing is, the picture was good but now it's at home it's, well, even better than in the shop ! Zero motion blur, amazing detail especially in dark scenes, i've not seen so many shades of black.

When watching a blu-ray it's strange, the picture is so realistic it's like your actually there. My previous tv is the Sony KDL-40W2000u.

That's all my budget gone so a few weeks before i consider the blu-ray player, which will have to be 3D ready, but which one would do this tv justice ??? My Sony BDP-550s has impressed me none the less !!!

did you buy the vt20 ? if so you will need to buy a panasonic 3d blu-ray player if you want to keep your denon amp , the pana players have two hdmi outs , which work with standard 1.3 spec hdmi cables ..

if you buy a 3d bdp from any other manufacturer you will need a new 1.4 spec av receiver like the denon 1911 , theres no point doing so imo , buy a pana player and keep your 1910 is my advice ..

i have been watching flight 666 iron maiden blu ray today on mine and the blacks look amazing too.

Yep as max says the panasonic one would be the one, even that all you could hang on for a while and see what else comes out that would be compatable.

Yeah i bought the VT, so glad i did !

The BDT300 is the only one with 2 hdmi outputs ? Slightly confused as in the mag by the 50VT20 tv review it has 5 stars, yet later on in the same issue (september) it has 4 stars ???

Think i might hang on as i'm pretty sure it's this time of year they start to bring out new equiptment. I really do want to try 3D at home though, especially with the difference i've already seen from the shop :)
