Dear WHF 'ers,

I have a nice loft with a louvre roof and want to put a budget system there.

I play only rock and metal music and like to play loud, but also gentle in the evening.

the room is not big (3,2 mtr by 6,5 mtr), I am not sure because of the louvre roof. So the 6,5 mtr is not full room.

I want to spend 2,000 pounds for speakers, cd player, amp, stands and cables.

do you guys have any advice, what systems would be ideal for rock, metal, in a not too big, but well damped room?

ciao Rob Pieters

What about Rotel 10 series amp & CD and some B&W 683 floorstanders?

That, or Exposure's 2010s CD & amp, which I've not heard myself, but they're prized for they're abilities with rock music.

Hi Rob

Definitely Exposure 2010S. I have heard them and they'll rock your socks off... speakers is trickier. I would go with Kef IQ5SE or even Monitor Audio RX6. For stand mounted speakers PMC DB1is or perhaps Dynaudio DM range. They do rock but whether they are suited to Exposure or not I couldn't tell you.

Go and audition a few combos and that will give you a clearer idea of the sound you're looking for.

Good hunting.

As above really; you need to get some demo'd lined up ASAP

For a £2k budget; you can get hell of a system IMO

For me seperates along the lines of NAD, B&W, Rotel, PMC, Monitor Audio, KEF, Exposure, Leema and maybe Arcam will do well for your musical tastes

My system below works superbly with rock and metal. It sounds amazing with the likes of Metallica, Rammstein and System of a Down BUT it will highlight poor recordings so that may need to be taken into consideration

The NAD pre/power I have sounds superb with B&W 683 and Monitor Audio RX6 speakers but so does the Rotel RA1520 amp. Pair either of them with the Audiolab 8200 CDP or maybe the Rega Apollo and you're laughing

Another amp to consider would be the NAD C375BEE. It may get a mediocre review from What Hifi but it's am amp that you need to demo yourself. It'll drive most speakers with bags of power and agility but with a great soundstage and depth as well
