My plazma or LCD TV shall be fixed to the wall. I shall sit 3.2 metres away. What size would you go for? Thanks.

Sorry room size is 4.8 metres long by 3.8 metres wide. Will sit 3.2 metres away. (cannot have TV facing long has to face width due to other factors such as fireplace). What size then? Thanks

At 3.2m I would definately not get any less than a 42". (I have a 37" and watch from around 2m and it's just the perfect size)

I also would personally go no bigger than 46". Thats a personal overall screen size concern when you go bigger than that rather than a concern regarding picture quality, I'm sure (depending on source) you could go bigger with no loss to picture quality.

Check the dimensions of some big TVs - listed in the specs on the reviews pages of WHF - and draw an outline in pencil on your wall, this will give you an indication of the size the TV will be and should give you a guide to what size you (and anyone else in your household) would be comfortable with.

What is your budget???

Thanks for replies - re price range - would be prepared to go for Pioneer 50 inch Kuro - but the actual size worries me about it being too big.

50 will seem big initially, but I sit a similar distance. TBH with Cinema wide screen the 50 is good due to the bars top and bottom. 50 is great for the PS3 and Wii.

50 50 50.

Good tip - look up the dimensions of the Pioneer on their website and then cut out a piece of cardboard or stick several sheets of A4 together until you've got a sheet the size of the TV. You can then prop this up on the wall or something, sit at your standard distance and see how big it looks.

Hi,

Just waiting for delivery of my Pioneer pdp lx5090

after the same dilemma, I originally wanted max screen size of 46" but after a trip to my local authorized Pioneer dealer he provided me with a template that had the image of the 60" and 50" Pioneer on it all you had to do was cut the 60" surround away leaving the 50" proper looking tv image so you get a realistic idea of how the tv will look in its final place.

This sealed the deal for me as you can't always get the best representation when using cardboard or other false templates for size as my boss (wife) wasn't convinced when I did a cardboard template (" it's too bloody big ")

but finally convinced her with this proper image (" actually it's not that bad ")

.

So it might be worth giving you're local dealer a ring to see if they have these templates as spending that sort of money or not might be a costly mistake in the near future i.e 3 months later " actually I wish I had gone bigger than 42" as this tv has shrunk to my eyes"

said my best mate after saying "of course 42" is well big enough" 3months earlier

.

Also I sit at around the 3m mark from my wall hung tv so according to various size/distance tables I'm slap bang in optimum viewing for a 50"

unless I've got it horribly wrong and will unfortuneatly be getting divorced very soon!!!!

Thanks for all replies and those who suggested cut out paper and stick to wall - I actually have done that with black bin bags for 50 inch (to get best representation of black screen) to the exact dimensions - it looks really big from 3.2metres and then I think should I just have 42inch but is it too small??? - what I like about pioneer 50 inch is that you do not have take the speaker below - all plazma and LCDs seem to have this now - the pioneer 50 inch you can buy the side speakers which look much better - my friend has done this and it looks stunning - unfortunately for 46 inch LCD and all plazmas below Pioneer like all other manufacturers opts for this horrible speaker below which is non detachable.

So still in a dilema (an expensive one) - anyone know a link to a website which advises on distance and appropriate screen size? Thanks.

But, this isn't what you want is it, what if it said a 65'' was okay from 10ft, it would be to big?

My friend 50'' can be viewed from one end of the sofa at about 6ft its ok.

50 will look worse closer on SD than a 42.

46 was going to be my max, but I have no regrets after getting used to the 50.

Even the wife to be, says how difference the experience watching films and stuff like Lost and 24 is.
