I am considering buying the Pioneer VSX-1020 receiver to use with my 685s as mains, 686s as surrounds and HTM62 centre speaker. Will this work as a combo? I was told that the VSX range is a bit bright sounding so will this be accentuated by the B&W 600 speakers?

Pioneer, bright? A myth. Most of the people saying this have probbaly never heard a Pioneer AV receiver or don't know the real meaning of the word bright, as it's not necessarily a negative. It has X-Curve, which can cut HF by up to 3dB in 0.5dB steps, so 'bright' speakers can be tamed.

Thanks. I will demo the VSX -1020 first to see for myself before I purchase.

OK, so I got the VSX-920 instead of VSX-1020 as the South African distributors of Pioneer do not carry the entire range.

Currently using it with only my B&W 685s for mains and HTM62 as centre. Still deciding how to mount the 686s in the rear and looking for a longer power cable for my subwoofer.

Does anyone know which settings will need to be changed for HD audio decoding? Currently the AVR only displays "PCM" when I play a Blu Ray. Using a Sony BDP-S370 connected via HDMI.

Do I need to run the MCACC first as I have not done so since I dont have all the speakers connected yet? Also if I try to change the speaker settings manually there is no option to change the Subwoofer "YES/NO"..........lists Subwoofer "YES" although I have none connected.

Can anyone assist?
