Hi,

The pioneer 82 is THX ultra 2 plus which means it has been made to a very high standard, it's more musical than the 72 and has more of a controlled bass to it, also more powerful in a more controlled way,

The pioneer 72 has an amazing bass to it but with less control more careful partnering is needed with speakers, that said in the right system can sound amazing.

What speakers are you thinking of partnering them with?

Thanks

great bass...trhough big speakers?

If satelite speakers + sub are used..does it make much difference in the 2 amps?

Choosing an AV receiver really depends on your choice of speakers. No receiver is perfect for all the speakers thrown at it. You need warm speakers to match the relatively bright Pioneer receivers. If your speakers are bright, then matching it with a Denon or Yamaha is better. Depends on your personal preferences. Which speakers are you planning to pair it with?

Arcam 500 handles music a lot better than the Pioneer. If music is not your priority, then it's probably not worth the cost.

Hi stpierre76

I have not heard the LX82 v AVR500 yet however another AV amp to also consider is Yamaha's DSP-Z7. I believe the DSP-Z7 is the finest VFM AV amplifier currently available on the market (even at its full RRP of £1960). DSP-Z7's are at the moment generally available for £1.4k-£1.5k making the DSP-Z7 a bargain.

I have compared the LX82 to the DSP-Z7 and i preferred the DSP-Z7 as an all rounder. I have also compared the AVR600 to the DSP-Z7 and i found the DSP-Z7 to better the AVR600 with movies. The AVR600 was superior to the DSP-Z7 with music however the AVR600's difference was in no way £1500 better let alone £2000 better than the DSP-Z7.

All the best

Thanks for all your inputs.very interesting indeed.I did not even consider the Z7 but will definately look into it.I read a few good reviews.I am lucky enough to have a dedicated home theatre room and a stereo are.So my priority will be with an av receiver be on movies.Could not care less aboutmusic as already got decent gear for the 2ch area(cyrus 8pre/power).I want detailed and accurate sound more than big and bold.I currently got the marantz sr7002 but somehow not satisfied with it hence me wanting to upgrade.I ran oppo83 blu ray, and a full 5.1 focalchorus 800 series(826 front, matching centre and in wall rear plus focal sub).Watch avatar last night and though I m not really into sci fi I thought I d enjoy it a lot more and thought that soundtrackmay be better.May be my set up is letting me down.I found the dialogue a bit muffled so I guess you can understand my obsession with clarity and details..thanks guys

The Pioneer SC LX-82 works brilliantly with the Focal chorus 800v speakers ,the punch, details, and clarity when those two put togather it,s something to behold! with an open and speciuos sound that will make your hair rise on end. all that attack and the sound remain refine and at the same time exiting when it needed, without being bright or abviuos.

The Yamaha Z7 is allso a good AVR. but it can,t match up to the LX-82 fine details and control , allso iam not sure if the Z7 is a good match for your focal chorus, because the yamaha sounds a little dark or one might say warm.

The Focal chorus 800v is a well balanced speakers , but i found out that if u pair them with a dark/warm sounding amp. then u might end up with a sound that is too relaxed , i had thise experience when i had my previuos Denon avr4310 and once i switch to the LX-82 i was stunned wow it,s like the focal chorus speakers got back to life after being dead.

Goodluck.
