Pioneer N-50A with iPod classic

I want a streamer to use on my network and with my iPod classic. The N-30 lists the iPod classic as supported, but the N-50A does not. It does not say that it definitely will not work, rather that unlisted iPods might not work.

The Marantz NA-6005 and Denon DNP-730AE both continue to support the iPod classic.

I have the dilemma of wanting the N-50A, but feeling concerned that my iPod will not work.

Can anybody help me solve this? As expected, the Pioneer support pages offer no usable advice on this.

fyi, iPod classic doesn't has wifi feature, you cannot streaming music from iPod Clasic to N-50 or N-30.

The solution; connect iPod classic to N-50 via digital inteconnect cable

i appreciate that. When connected using a cable, the Pioneer will drive the menu system on the iPod. However, given the comments in the manual that only certain models and software standards are supported then I do not know if the N-50 will work in this manner with the iPod classic, hence the question.

I've looked on the Pioneer website and can't see anything which helps. Unfortunately we didn't have a Classic to hand when we tested the N-50A, so I'll drop Pioneer UK a line and ask for clarification. Alternatively, is there any chance you could visit a dealer and ask to try it out?

Thanks for the comments, I have been researching the info online and had also concluded that the newest generation of Pioneer players seem to have removed the iPod classic from the list of supported devices. I will try to find a dealer with one on show so that I can find out the compatibility, but they seem hard to find around here (Switzerland).

Other manufacturers continue to show the iPod Classic as a supported device, so perhaps I will just have to try them.

I have now had an official reply from Pioneer UK: they have the same info as spiny so 'officially' the Classic is not listed as compatible with the N-50A:

http://pioneer.jp/homeav/support/ios/eu/search.php?chr=N&lga=en

However, there is a possibility it might still work but it's just that the Classic is no longer officially supported by Apple or Pioneer. Their UK product manager is doing some more digging on this and if I get any more info I'll let you know.

Thanks Andy,

As the N50 listed some very old ipod and iphone models then I am curious on what answer will result from this. The ipod classic is perfect for me but went from hero to zero almost overnight
